• Detailed description:

Excavators are heavy construction equipment primarily consisting of a boom, dipper (or stick), bucket, and cab on a rotating platform known as the “house”.  The modern excavator’s house sits atop an undercarriage with tracks or wheels.  All excavation-related movements and functions of a hydraulic excavator are accomplished through the use of hydraulic fluid, with hydraulic cylinders and hydraulic motors.  With modern excavators the direction of the digging action occurs by pulling the bucket towards the excavator.  Excavators are used for digging trenches and holes, road construction, building construction, demolitions, mining, and lifting and moving materials.

Recycled cardboard should be used to make a working model of an excavator.   To help the learner with the task templates of the parts are included.  The templates should be cut out and traced onto recycled cardboard.  To complete the task the parts must be cut out and used with the components included in the package.
